South Sudan needs to repatriate all its refugee populations in various African nations to become a stable nation. The largest refugee population is concentrated in East Africa, mainly in Ethiopia, Uganda and Sudan. Once the security arrangements are fully implemented in South Sudan, bringing our people home can arise. According to the data reported on October 31, 2021, by UNHCR (The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees). South Sudanese refugees are dispersed through various African countries. The following is a statistical breakdown of the refugee populations per country. Uganda 1,016,978, Sudan 793,833, Ethiopia 380,320, Kenya 148,249 and Democratic Republic of Congo 56,531.
Security arrangements are the commitment, ‘’forming a professional and specialized national army, police, security and other organized services that shall be all-inclusive and free from ethnic or tribal affiliations.’’ All parties in South Sudan have signed the document outlining the details of the security arrangements and their implementation processes. These agreements must be honoured for the future of the Republic of South Sudan. Security first, then development is second; without protection, nothing can thrive. The prolonging of the security arrangements is what’s fueling conflicts and creating more refugees by the minute. Becoming a nation is a process, and it has to be done by honouring our signed agreements and implementing them one section at a time per the agreed dateline.
