President Salva Kiir Broke R-ARCISS AGREEMENT By attacking SPLM-IO Controlled Areas

On January 9, 2022, the village of Wangkuarbii was attacked under Major General Khor Chuol Giet, loyal to the president of South Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardiit, stationed in Pagak, South Sudan. Sudan People's Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM/SPLA-IO) forces under the chairman and first vice president of South Sudan, Dr. Riek Machar, are stationed in Wangkuarbii. Forces loyal to SPLM-IG attacked SPLM-IO at their station and, as a result, committed treason and broke the peace agreements. SPLM-IG was supposed to honour the contracts and implement them according to specified datelines, but instead, SPLM-IG has attacked their peace partner SPLM-IO provoking us to go back to war. SPLM-IG is an aggressor who doesn't value their parts of the agreements and governmental responsibilities and standards.

The aggression didn't stop on January 9, 2022; forces loyal to him attacked IO forces without notice in Bentiu, Lou, and Gajaak areas on January 13, 2022. The attacks were calculated since they coincided and in the same time frame. Sudan People's Liberation Movement-In Government (SPLM-IG) under chairman and president Salva Kiir Mayardiit and Sudan People's Liberation Movement-In Opposition (SPLM-IO) under the chairman and first vice president of South Sudan Dr. Riek Machar are peace partners have signed documents stating so in September 2018 in the R-ARCISS (Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan). The president himself has not come out to condemn the instability happening right now in the country and along the borders of Ethiopia and South Sudan. Murle militias loyal to President Salva Kiir Mayardiit have attacked the Chie-nyayan areas of Makuey and the population in Pagak; as a result, a village was burned into ashes and children were abducted. The village of Wangkuarbii has been attacked several times since January 9, 2022, and is still facing constant threats. 

January 2022 has been a month where President Salva Kiir Mayardiit violated the peace agreements while the world sat back and said nothing. President Salva Kiir Mayarditt has been funding and supporting anti-peace partners such as Kitgwang and the groups of Major General Khor Chuol Giet to bring chaos into SPLM-IO-controlled areas and to take the country back to civil warfare and unrest. The president is not phased by our constant flooding problem throughout the nation, the internally displaced persons, our people languishing in refugee camps, and many lives being uprooted by poverty and preventable health problems due to the lack of nationalized healthcare in the country. These problems are dire enough to force one to act in a manner befitting a sovereign nation's president. Our regional partners in East Africa have not issued a letter or spoken a word condemning the acts of treason committed by a president towards innocent civilians and peace partners. These actions unaddressed will lead us back to national and regional instability in East Africa.
